Jesu, Shepherd of the
Sheep Jesu, Shepherd of the sheep, pity my unsettled soul; Guide and nourish me, and keep Give me, perfect soundness give,
But thou art, as yesterday, now and evermore the same; Constancy to me impart establish with Thy grace my heart.
Till the rebel cease to be, keep him down within my soul; That he never more may move;
Holy, purifying hope, still my soul's sure anchor be; That I may be always Thine, perfect me in Thy love divine.
Though the language is dated (it is almost 300 years old) this text is
one of the reasons I love writing music for old hymns, especially when they have been written by Wesley. Wesley states that
his texts can be used “as a means of quickening the spirit of devotion, of confirming our faith, of enlivening our hope
and kindling and increasing our love to God and man.” - Keri
Sacred Bond from the CD "May His Name Endure Forever" You
brought me to You as a child, You took away my darkest pain; You held me close against Your heart; Mighty,
strong, yet softly tender; Keep
me always in Your arms; Sometimes,
I long for the days of wonder that I experienced as a new Christian. I felt for the first time how infinitely small
I was and how infinitely great the Lord was -- but somehow, I did not feel lost in that vastness. It was the first time
I can ever remember feeling really safe. Sacred Bond came out of my remembering those days with great tenderness and
longing. - Jean Text:
