Jesu, Shepherd of the Sheep
Search Me
Sacred Bond
Crucified

Jesu, Shepherd of the Sheep
from the CD "May His Name Endure Forever"
Text: Charles Wesley/Music: Keri Jacobs

Jesu, Shepherd of the sheep, pity my unsettled soul;

Guide and nourish me, and keep
till Thy love shall make me whole;

Give me, perfect soundness give,
make me steadfast in belief.

I am never at one stay, changing every hour I am;

But thou art, as yesterday, now and evermore the same;

Constancy to me impart establish with Thy grace my heart.

Lay Thy weighty cross on me, all my unbelief control;

Till the rebel cease to be, keep him down within my soul;

That he never more may move;
root and ground me fast in love.

Give me faith to hold me up, walking over life's rough sea;

Holy, purifying hope, still my soul's sure anchor be;

That I may be always Thine, perfect me in Thy love divine.

Vocals: Jean and Lloyd; bass: Gantt Kushner

Though the language is dated (it is almost 300 years old) this text is one of the reasons I love writing music for old hymns, especially when they have been written by Wesley. Wesley states that his texts can be used “as a means of quickening the spirit of devotion, of confirming our faith, of enlivening our hope and kindling and increasing our love to God and man.” - Keri

Search Me    from Psalm 139
from the CD "Where Morning Dawns"
Words / music by Gordon Crump,
Brian Bateman and Terry Butler

Lord, You have searched me and You know me
You know when I sit and when I rise
You understand my thoughts from afar
My path and lying down, you scrutinize

Search me; search me and know me
Try me and know my anxious thoughts
Search me and know me; lead me in the everlasting way.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where is Your presence not around?
If I ascend to heaven; You are there
If I dwell with the dead; You are there
And if I take the wings of the dawn to the farthest sea -
Even there Your hand will guide me
Even there Your right hand will take hold of me.

Sacred Bond

from the CD "May His Name Endure Forever"
Text: Jean Crichton (copyright 2006) / Music: Keri Jacobs

O Holy One who died for me; You knew the evil in my soul.

You brought me to You as a child,
and cleansed my sins, and made me whole.

You took away my darkest pain;
Your peace descended as a dove.

You held me close against Your heart;
Your thrilling voice told me Your love.

Oh, do not take Your arms away;
Lock me in Your embrace forever.

Mighty, strong, yet softly tender;
Sacred bond that none can sever.

Let me always be Your child; Your Spirit over me increased.

Keep me always in Your arms;
I could not bear to be released.

Vocals: Jean and Gordon; bass: Gantt Kushner

Sometimes, I long for the days of wonder that I experienced as a new Christian.  I felt for the first time how infinitely small I was and how infinitely great the Lord was -- but somehow, I did not feel lost in that vastness.  It was the first time I can ever remember feeling really safe.  Sacred Bond came out of my remembering those days with great tenderness and longing. - Jean

Crucified     from Isaiah 53
from the CD "Where Morning Dawns"
Words / music by Keri Jacobs

Crucified for our transgressions
He bore our griefs and our sorrows as His own
Perfect Lamb of God He died,
As God's wrath was satisfied
And with His stripes we are healed.

Forsaken and rejected
We thought that He had been stricken by His God
In our place He stood condemned
Crushed and broken for our sin
And all our guilt was laid on Him.

Like sheep we all had wandered
Far from the fold of the Shepherd of the sheep
Each of us had turned away
Yet He sought us though we strayed
And brought us home, and brought us safely home to God.
